Climate change is here and it is real. No matter what other people say, this unfortunate phenomenon shouldn’t be questioned or denied just because there’s still a glaring lack of awareness and even big stars are doing what they can to fight this.

Pink Floyd’s guitarist and former frontman David Gilmour was just one of those who make sure that they are creating a ripple effect by making a big contribution to the fight against climate change. In summer last year, he had more than 120 guitars in his collection auctioned off at Christie’s that totaled $21.2 million.

The Black Strat sold for almost $4 million

Among those bought by lucky bidders was the Fender Stratocaster that David himself used in the band’s albums The Wall, The Dark Side of The Moon, and Wish You Were Here.

This iconic black piece called The Black Strat was initially expected to fetch between $100,000 and $150,000 but someone bought it for a whopping $3,975,000 – becoming the most expensive guitar purchased at an auction.

Other musical instruments that were sold were a banjo, guitar cases, amplifiers, and other guitars from Gibson, Ovation, Fender, Gretsch, C.F. Martin, and Rickenbacker.

This showed just how synonymous David is with his guitar – the sale of which was about a fifth of the entire revenue. There were about 2,000 people from different countries at the event, all hopefuls that they could snatch the artist’s prized possessions.

David Gilmour let go of more than 120 guitars in his collection

The impressive sales also spoke a lot about how he remains to be a celebrated artist as well as how his fans are still alive despite Pink Floyd disbanding in 2014.

However, don’t think that David just became richer because all the proceeds were given to ClientEarth, a nonprofit organization that aims to fight global warming.

David shared that he chose the group and the advocacy because he believes this problem is the worst humanity has to overcome and which is irreversible. James Thornton, the nonprofit’s CEO, praised the musician and explained that the big help is a boost in fighting for their cause.

The artist, meanwhile, assured his fans that the deed didn’t mean he was exiting the busy music scene because he still has a few guitars left. As such, you can add climate change activist to David’s resume.

Pink Floyd was popular in the ‘80s

For those who don’t know, Pink Floyd was an English rock group that became popular in the 1980s. They are arguably one of the best bands from the country and some of their hits include Comfortably Numb, Coming Back to Life, Welcome to the Machine, and On The Turning Away.
