Britney Spears has had enough. After years of silence, the 43-year-old singer is firing back at her ex-husband, Kevin Federline, accusing him of "gaslighting" and making money off what she says are “painful lies.” This comes right after Federline released his memoir “You Thought You Knew,” a book packed with disturbing allegations about Britney and her time as a mother.
In typical Britney fashion, she is taking aim at both the content and the timing of Federline’s book. According to her, this isn't about healing or truth. It is about cashing in on drama from the past.
Federline’s Scandalous Memoir
Federline’s book doesn’t hold back. He claims Britney showed troubling behavior during their sons' childhoods. One shocking story says the kids woke up to find Britney silently standing over them with a knife. He also says he saw her use cocaine while breastfeeding, and claims their son told him Britney once said she wished all three of them were dead.

Federline / IG / In other sections, Federline writes about Britney allegedly punching one of their sons, burning their scalp with bleach, and giving shellfish to a child who is allergic.
He says he is still worried about her mental state and calls the situation “racing toward something irreversible.”
But he doesn’t stop there. Federline also slams the #FreeBritney movement, calling it a “mob mentality” that ignored the risks he says Britney posed. He defends the conservatorship that controlled her life for 13 years, saying it gave their kids a safer environment.
“It Is Gaslighting”, Britney Hits Back
Britney didn’t waste time clapping back. On social media, she called Federline’s book “extremely hurtful and exhausting.” She said the things he wrote weren’t just wrong, they were cruel. She called it “constant gaslighting” and said the so-called white lies were just ways to profit from her pain.
And it is personal. Britney opened up about her heartbreak over how little she sees her sons. According to her, one has only seen her for 45 minutes in five years. The other? Just four short visits. She blames Federline’s attitude, saying he never showed her any real respect as a mother or a person.

Britney / IG / Britney also points out that she already told her side in “The Woman in Me,” her 2023 memoir. She says Federline became obsessed with fame and used their custody battle to make her look unfit.
The “Gimme More” hitmaker even links her 2007 breakdown to the stress and pressure of losing her kids.
However, the fight between these two, who were married from 2004 to 2007, didn’t start last week. Britney and Kevin’s relationship was a fast burn. They met in 2004, got married the same year, and had two kids before splitting in 2007. Their divorce led to a nasty custody battle that left Federline with full custody of the boys.
The conservatorship only made things messier. For over a decade, Britney had no control over her finances or major life decisions. While fans fought to end it, Federline said it was necessary for her safety and the boys' stability. That disagreement became a key point in how they each tell their story now.
Then there is the timing. Britney’s camp pointed out that Federline released the book just after his child support payments ended. They see it as no coincidence. Federline claims he stayed quiet for years and only wrote the memoir because others were telling his story for him. But Spears isn’t buying that explanation.
