A Design Lover's Paradise Safari Awaits at the Dazzling New Masiya's Camp

Welcome to the safari of your design dreams. Masiya’s Camp isn’t your typical khaki-covered outpost. Tucked inside South Africa’s Greater Kruger National Park, this newly opened camp throws tradition out the window and replaces it with color, art, and pure personality. Think of it as the lovechild of wild Africa and bold Marrakech flair.

Built by Liz Biden of The Royal Portfolio, Masiya’s Camp is all about bold moves. The canvas suits are painted in dusty pink, not beige. The walls? Covered in vibrant paintings, not taxidermy. Every space here tells a story, and none of it is muted.

A Color Explosion in the Heart of the Bush

Forget the rustic vibes you are used to. These interiors are fearless. Dusty pinks, bright blues, and earthy greens echo the feathers of local birds like the carmine bee-eater and the European roller. Add in antique Indian doors, custom-made furniture, Persian rugs, and Marrakech-style tiles, and you have got a space that feels curated, not themed.

Royal Malewane / IG / Art is everywhere. And it is not just décor. It is central to the experience.

Look out for pieces by Tafadzwa Tega, a celebrated Zimbabwean artist whose work adds edge and warmth to the walls. This is not a hotel that just looks good in photos. It is one that sparks emotion.

Canvas Suites That Feel Like a Dream

But don’t let the beauty fool you. This camp takes comfort seriously. Each of the six tented suites clocks in at around 2,400 square feet. That is more than enough room to stretch out, breathe, and just be. Inside, you get all the high-end trimmings, from air conditioning and underfloor heating to king-size beds and a minibar that is stocked to the brim.

The outdoor features seal the deal. Every suite has its own private deck, a plunge pool that stays warm even on cool nights, and an open-air sala for mid-afternoon naps or morning coffee with a view. You will fall asleep to the sounds of the bush and wake up feeling like royalty.

Next-Level Safari, Deep Roots in Tracking

Still, Masiya’s isn’t just pretty to look at. It delivers the real deal when it comes to safari. The camp is linked with Royal Malewane, one of the most respected safari outfits in the region. That means world-class guides, expert trackers, and access to a private concession in the Thornybush reserve. Translation? You will see wildlife without the crowds.

Travel + Leisure / The game drives are next-level. You get twice-daily outings with seasoned pros who know the land like the back of their hand.

And because Masiya’s honors the late Wilson Masiya, the camp brings a deeper connection to the art of tracking.

Want to get even closer to nature? Try the bush walks. They are guided, safe, and unforgettable. You will learn how to read the land, notice the smallest signs of animal activity, and feel the ground under your feet in a way you just can’t from a vehicle.

And when you are done with your day in the wild, the camp doesn’t skimp on the food. Expect everything from refined fine dining to laid-back braais under the stars. There is a bar for cocktails, a boutique for style-hunters, and a shared heated pool if you feel like being social. It is casual but sharp, unfussy but elevated.
